Thank you for reaching out! I am happy to explain our plan, Affirmative Action and its significance as it relates to college admissions.
The plan is simply to forge ahead and support, guide and lead our people out of this dark time in our history. And when I say "our people," I mean ANY people effected by these radical cuts being imposed by the Trump administration. We don't discriminate based upon race - there is room in our organization for white people, brown, red, yellow, black people, etc. Anyone of any race who wants to help is welcome. The reason this organization was formed with black people in mind is because we are primarily the ones under attack right now. But as I said, we welcome justice seekers of all races, colors and creeds.
What Affirmative Action is- Affirmative Action refers to a set of policies and practices within a government or organization seeking to address systemic discrimination.
What Affirmative Action means in regards to education- In education, Affirmative Action helps protect students from racial discrimination in college admissions by requiring universities to consider each applicant’s racial background in their decision making as a potential positive factor. Meaning (to use a baseball analogy), if 2 people score a run by crossing home plate, but one person started on 3rd base while the other person started on 1 base, but they both cross home plate at the same time, a preference would (and should) be given to the runner who traveled the furthest, i.e. to the runner who overcame the most.
In this example, the black person started on 1st base -- did not have special tutoring, did not have libraries in his neighborhood, did not have great teachers, did not have a great support structure, etc. and still maintained a super high g.p.a and did extremely well on their entrance exams. Under Affirmative Action, that person would be given a preference because he overcame more to arrive at the same place/same time as the person who had the head start by starting on 3rd base. Lastly, as an added benefit, Affirmative Action helps maintain diversity in a university's student body. Diversity on college campuses is important because that is the world - the world is diverse.
Current Status of Affirmative Action- Affirmative Action has been struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court in the case Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard (2023)
What you can do- freely tell your story! Yes, write as freely as you wish as long as you answer the questions posed to you by colleges. Do not feel bound up. If you are bound up that means evil is winning. That is what they want. They want to stifle you and make you scared to have a voice in this world. DO NOT LET THEM WIN! Speak freely and, of course, respectfully. Write eloquently, confidently and respectfully. No bitterness or fear. Let them see how wonderful you are. But do not shy away from who you are. Let the colleges and universities do what they deem fit but it is not up to you to censor yourself by being afraid to respectfully tell your life story.
I understand that this is an uncertain time for the black community and for other communities of color but we cannot be fearful. Fear is one of the things that fuels racism. We must repel racism with hope, encouragement, perseverance and determination. A determination to achieve all you set out to do no matter the obstacles. I call for you NOW to stay encouraged and to not be intimidated by the wickedness of racism because you are an overcomer! And you will prevail!
