Good Afternoon Sequoia.Johnson14! I understand your concern about student loans in wake of the Department of Education being eliminated. Here is what you need to know:
The President's executive order ceased most of the Department of Education's (DOE) operations but student loans still remain under DOE management. However, the President has expressed his disapproval of the DOE's handling of student loans and wants another federal department to manage student loans. It is assumed that the President will have the Treasury Department manage student loans but things still remain unclear. Additionally, the loan forgiveness policies put in place by President Biden are now at risk. With the DOE not performing to its full capacity, many applications for loan forgiveness are being stalled.
Though this is an uncertain time for many students like yourself, stay encouraged! There are other forms of financial aid that are not reliant upon the DOE. I highly recommend that you check out my most recent comments on the financial aid section of this forum for more information.
